Maurizio Sarri told N’Golo Kante can shine in Chelsea FC role
The Blues legend believes N'Golo Kante can shine in Chelsea FC team in an advanced role
N’Golo Kante is showing rapid improvement in a number eight role at Chelsea FC, according to Pat Nevin.
The France international has established himself as the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League following spells at Leicester City and his current employers Chelsea FC.
However, Maurizio Sarri hasn’t hesitated to shuffle Kante further up the pitch to accommodate his summer signing Jorginho, who arrived in a £57m deal from Napoli.
The Italy international has excelled in his holding role in the Chelsea FC team, aside from a 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley last month.
Kante has performed well in a more forward-thinking role, but Sarri was urged to use the Frenchman in his preferred position following their loss at Spurs.
The World Cup winner made the breakthrough in Chelsea FC’s 2-0 win over Manchester City last weekend after Eden Hazard found Kante bursting into the box and the Frenchman placed his finish past Ederson.
Former Chelsea FC winger Nevin has dismissed the suggestion that Kante can’t perform to a high level in a more attacking role in the Chelsea FC team.
“What about those out there who continue to say Kante cannot play further up the field?” Nevin told Chelsea FC’s website.
“He may not be the best player in the world in the ‘No.8 position’ the way he is as a deeper destroyer, but he can do a job there. He is now showing rapid improvement in his performances there. Last week I explained that winning the ball 50 yards higher up the field has huge benefits.
“Well he surpassed that against City when he roofed the opening goal. His second-half performance was a game changer in every sense for us on the day but also for him as a player going forward into a new future in this new position.”
The Blues signed Jorginho from Napoli after the west London side appointed his former manager Sarri as their new manager in the summer.
Jorginho has netted one goal in 15 outings in the Premier League, while Kante has scored twice and made two assists in 16 fixtures.
