Pat Nevin names Chelsea FC star as Maurizio Sarri’s wild card
The Chelsea FC legend believes Marcos Alonso remains a wild card for Maurizio Sarri

Pat Nevin believes Chelsea FC star Marcos Alonso remains one of Maurizio Sarri’s wild card.
The Blues full-back remained at FA Cup winners Chelsea FC beyond the 2018 summer transfer window despite interest from La Liga duo FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Alonso remained at Stamford Bridge beyond the close of the summer transfer window to ensure the Spain international will be part of the Chelsea FC star over the next five months.
The 27-year-old has made a strong start to the Premier League season after Alonso scored the winner in a 3-2 victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
Former Bolton star Alonso made an assist in Chelsea FC’s 2-1 win against Newcastle United at St James’ Park to help Sarri maintain his 100 per cent start to his Blues reign.
Ex-Chelsea FC star Nevin believes Alonso remains a wild card for the new Blues manager.
“What was interesting was the role of Marcos Alonso in the outcome, he is still one of our wild cards,” Nevin told Chelsea FC’s website.
“As Chelsea have changed to a 4-3-3 formation it was widely thought that Alonso would have to curtail his more attacking instincts, which were so apparent when he played as a wing-back over the past few seasons.
“Well it would appear that nobody has got round to informing him!”
Alonso has scored eight goals in 46 appearances in the 2017-18 season.
Chelsea FC finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a spot in the Champions League.
Thw Blues were 1-0 winners against Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley last term.
