Olivier Giroud has revealed that Frank Lampard is eager for the Chelsea FC players to accept responsibility under his management.

The Blues appointed their record goal-scorer as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

Lampard had just 12 months of managerial experience under his belt before his return to the west London club was fast-tracked.

The 41-year-old led Derby County to the Championship play-off final in his first season at the Rams before a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa at Wembley.

Chelsea FC lost their first game under the former England international at the weekend following a 1-0 loss to Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale.

Speaking to Chelsea FC’s website about life under Lampard ahead of the new Premier League season, Giroud said:

“It seems very clear that he wants the best from us.

“He wants to help us improve and he has a clear idea of what he wants to achieve. He’s a competitor, he wants to win every single game.

“We’re working on the tactics when we don’t have the ball and playing this 4-2-3-1 we have to know each other a bit better as well. This was the first time I’ve played with Christian [Pulisic], with Mason [Mount] and with Kenedy so obviously it will take time but we feel good. We believe in the gaffer because he’s the right man for this situation.

“He repeats every day that we have to take responsibility and we have to show personality. He’s insisting a lot on this kind of stuff, playing without fear but with confidence. I think we will learn quickly.”

Giroud scored two goals during Chelsea FC’s pre-season tour of the Republic of Ireland.

Lampard’s side will start the new Premier League season with a clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 11 August.

The Blues are back in pre-season action on Tuesday when they take on Barcelona in Saitama.

Giroud moved to Chelsea FC from their bitter rivals Arsenal in the 2018 January transfer window.

The 32-year-old has scored 18 times in 62 games in all competitions over the past 18 months at the west London side.

Chelsea FC finished in third place in the Premier League table last term.
