Petr Cech praises Alvaro Morata for taking his finish well to give Chelsea FC the lead in the FA Cup clash with Leicester
Petr Cech heaped praise on Alvaro Morata for an “absolutely brilliant” finish in Chelsea FC’s 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final win over Leicester City on Sunday.
Morata has been struggling for form for the Blues in recent weeks but he netted his first goal of 2018 in style with a cool finish to give the visitors the lead at the King Power Stadium in the 42nd minute.
The Spanish striker was in good nick for the west London side and looked much sharper than he has done in recent months.
Leicester City equalised to force the game to extra-time in the 76th minute thanks to Jamie Vardy’s goal.
But Pedro Rodriguez came off the bench to head home the winner for the visitors and book their place in the semi-finals.
Speaking during BBC Sport‘s coverage of the game, Arsenal goalkeeper and former Chelsea FC man Cech praised Morata for confidently finishing his chance in the first half despite being on such a long dry spell.
Cech said: “Kasper Schmeichel played the situation well – he closed him down and took up a lot of space.
“But as the boys said, when you have someone who hasn’t scored for a long period of time, it’s an absolutely brilliant finish [from Morata].
Morata’s last goal for Chelsea FC had come back on Boxing Day in the 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.
