Mark Lawrenson is backing Chelsea FC to bounce back to winning ways by beating Newcastle United in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues head into the game looking to respond after the disappointment of being knocked out of the League Cup at the semi-final stage at the hands of Arsenal last week.

Antonio Conte’s men were beaten 2-1 at The Emirates as the Gunners got the better of the west London side once again in a cup competition.

Chelsea FC will now look to dust themselves down as they aim to try and reach the fifth round of the FA Cup by beating the Magpies in front of their home fans on Sunday afternoon.

And Lawrenson is tipping Conte’s side to secure their progress to the next round by beating Rafael Benitez’s side at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Chelsea are another team who should be looking at the FA Cup and thinking they have to take it seriously.

“They are out of the Carabao Cup and although they are still in the Champions League, this competition looks their most likely route to a trophy.

“The Blues beat Newcastle pretty comfortably at Stamford Bridge in the league in December and I would expect something similar to happen this time too.”

Chelsea FC are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they chase Champions League qualification in Conte’s second campaign in charge.

The west London side have already been busy in the January transfer window after having signed Ross Barkley from Everton at the turn of the year.
