Pat Nevin has compared Jorginho to Andrea Pirlo following the Italian’s solid start to life at Chelsea FC.
Jorginho has been getting used to life at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks after having signed for the west London club as one of Maurizio Sarri’s first recruits in the summer transfer window.
The Brazil-born Italy international has hit the ground running at the west London club, scoring one goal in four Premier League starts for Sarri’s men so far.
Jorginho played for the full 90 minutes as he helped Chelsea FC to notch up all three points against Bournemouth on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.
And Nevin has admitted that he has been hugely impressed by what he has seen from the summer signing in a Chelsea FC shirt so far this season.
Speaking in an interview with Chelsea FC’s website, Nevin said: “It is no great surprise that Jorginho has made more passes than any other Premier League player so far this season, nearly 50 more than his nearest rival.
“This is amazing for any player, never mind one who is new to the team and the league.
“It should not however be about passing for the sake of it as that can be self-indulgent and self-serving in the wrong circumstances.
“Over-passing can give opponents time to regroup but when this sort of player can dominate the tempo of a game, speeding it up and slowing it down at will when the time is right, it is almost always beneficial.
“Very few players in world football have the ability to dictate games to this level but Jorginho is showing he can do that.
“His countryman Andrea Pirlo did the same, from the same position, but they both have subtly different ways of doing it.”
Chelsea FC have won all four of their opening Premier League games so far this season and they will be looking to continue that form when they take on Cardiff City at Stamford Bridge after the international break.
The Blues finished fifth and won the FA Cup last term under Antonio Conte.
