Ray Wilkins has openly criticised Chelsea FC for their decision to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko and sell Nathaniel Chalobah in the summer transfer window.

The Blues opted to spend big on bringing Bakayoko to Stamford Bridge from French side Monaco in the summer transfer window and at the same time decided to sell Chalobah to Watford for £6m.

Bakayoko has struggled to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League and he was widely criticised for his performance as he was sent off in the 4-1 loss to Watford in the top flight on Monday night.

And former Chelsea FC coach Wilkins admits that he cannot understand why the Blues opted to let Chalobah leave the club last summer.

Wilkins told Sky Sports: “Chalobah went to Watford for £6m, they bought in Bakayoko for £40m. Both the same age [both are 23]. Where is the £34m differential between those two players? I just don’t see it.

“You’ve got an English boy that has grown up, played 100 games for England through the ranks which is phenomenal, and we let him go to Watford for £6m.

“He loves Chelsea, he’s a Chelsea boy and I just can’t see for the life of me why we do this.”

Chelsea FC will look to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on West Bromwich Albion in front of their home fans at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

The west London side currently find themselves in fourth place in the Premier League table as they bid to try and at least secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Chelsea FC will take on FC Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League later this month.
