‘He’s been really good’: Lampard opens up on Batshuayi at Chelsea FC
Frank Lampard singles out Michy Batshuayi for praise after Chelsea FC's League Cup defeat by Man United
Frank Lampard singled out Michy Batshuayi for special praise after the striker scored in Chelsea FC’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the League Cup on Wednesday night.
The Belgium international has found his first-team opportunities to be few and far between this season due to the brilliant form of Tammy Abraham up front for the Blues.
The 26-year-old is yet to start a Premier League game for Chelsea FC this season but he has made five appearances from the bench for Lampard’s men in the top flight this season.
Despite his lack of playing time, Batshuayi has still impressed whenever called upon and he has scored five goals in all competitions for the west London side.
The striker scored Chelsea FC’s equaliser in the 61st minute of their League Cup tie on Wednesday night but Marcus Rashford’s double proved too much for the home side.
However, Lampard chose to single out Batshuayi for special praise after the game in the wake of the defeat.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Lampard said: “The outstanding moment of the game from our point of view was Michy’s goal in terms of individual endeavour, skill, strength, pace and finish.
“Michy has been really good for us this season with his attitude and professionalism in training.
“It’s not easy when another striker is scoring and you’re not getting involved much. Every time he’s started in the cup games, every time he’s come on, he’s shown stuff.”
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Saturday night when they take on Watford away from home.
The Blues are currently pushing for a top-four finish in the Premier League as they look to seal Champions League qualification for next season.
