Maurizio Sarri has called on Callum Hudson-Odoi to “respect” Chelsea FC and the club’s academy following the speculation about the teenager’s future.

The 18-year-old has been strongly linked with a transfer to Bayern Munich this month and it has been claimed in the British media that Chelsea FC have rejected as many as four bids from the Bundesliga side.

There have also been claims that Hudson-Odoi has handed in a transfer request at the west London club in a bid to try and force a move away from Stamford Bridge.

However, the teenager remains as a Chelsea FC player for now and Sarri believes that the youngster would be wise to focus on trying to perform at his best and force his way into his first-team plans.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Sarri said: “Callum is 18, he has to respect the club, the academy, everything.

“He has time. If you are one of the best young players in Europe, maybe the academy helped you. So you have to respect this.

“Of course, he’s a very great player. He will become one of the best in Europe also in another team, but he has to respect the work of the academy coaches, I think.

“We will be patient with him because he’s a boy from the academy. I don’t know if, at another club, people would be patient with him after five or six matches.

“It’s very difficult to go to another country and adapt immediately or play very well immediately. That’s a difficult situation. It’s better for him to try and improve here.

“But that’s my opinion. I may not be right.”

The transfer window closes on Thursday night and it looks increasingly likely that Hudson-Odoi will remain at Chelsea FC until the summer at least.

Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they host Huddersfield at Stamford Bridge.

The west London side currently find themselves fourth in the Premier League table as they chase a top-four finish in Sarri’s first season in charge at the club.
