Eden Hazard isn’t as effective in a Chelsea striker role, Kevin Kilbane has warned Antonio Conte.

The Italian coach has been forced to use the Belgium international in an unorthodox striker role in the current campaign.

Summer signing Alvaro Morata has struggled with a lack of confidence and fitness problems during the 2017-18 season.

Chelsea sanctioned Michy Batshuayi’s loan move to Borussia Dortmund on transfer deadline day after failing to secure a regular spot under Conte.

New Chelsea addition Olivier Giroud wasn’t available for selection mid-week for Chelsea’S 3-0 loss to Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Hazard led the line but the former PFA player of the year couldn’t find a way to unlock Bournemouth’s stubborn defence.

Former Irish defender Kilbane warned Chelsea that Hazard’s talents are being compromised when he is used in a forward role.

“Hazard up front. He is a brilliant, brilliant player,” Kilbane told Irish radio station Newstalk.

“You take something away from his game when he is playing as a number nine. He has to come deep.”

Chelsea started the weekend in fourth place in the Premier League following their shock 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.

The Blues signed Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, AS Roma defender Emerson Palmieri and Arsenal striker Giroud in January.

The west London side haven’t won the Champions League since 2012 and the Blues have been pitted against Barcelona in the last 16.
