Rio Ferdinand: Why Chelsea FC deserve credit despite Liverpool FC goal
Rio Ferdinand has his say on Daniel Sturridge's sublime equaliser in Chelsea FC's draw with Liverpool FC
Rio Ferdinand believes that the quality of Daniel Sturridge’s equaliser for Liverpool FC in their 1-1 draw at Chelsea FC on Saturday highlights how hard the Blues are to break down.
The English striker came off the bench to fire a brilliant equaliser into the top corner in the dying moments of Saturday’s Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge after Eden Hazard had given the Blues the lead in the first half.
Both Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC have been earning plenty of praise for their solid starts to the new campaign.
Chelsea FC have looked especially impressive, considering that they are still adapting to life under new manager Maurizio Sarri.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes that it is credit to Chelsea FC that it took a goal of that quality to earn a point for the Reds.
Speaking to BT Sport after Saturday’s game, Ferdinand said: “It took a goal of that quality to break this Chelsea team down. You have to pay credit to the Chelsea team [for that].
“But the goal isn’t about defending and it’s not about the goalkeeper – it’s about pure brilliance in that left foot.”
Chelsea FC are now preparing for their Europa League clash against Videoton at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
The Blues are currently third in the Premier League table and two points behind joint leaders Liverpool FC and Manchester City.
Chelsea FC brought in Sarri as their new manager back in July after opting to part company with Antonio Conte after two seasons.
