Rio Ferdinand reacts to Chelsea FC’s loss to FC Barcelona
Rio Ferdinand praises Chelsea FC for their performance in the 3-0 loss to FC Barcelona on Wednesday
Rio Ferdinand credited Chelsea FC with putting in a “fighting” performance despite their disappointing 3-0 loss to FC Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Lionel Messi gave the home side the lead at Camp Nou in just the third minute, before Ousmane Dembele made it 2-0 to the Spanish outfit before half-time.
Messi then struck again after the break to wrap up a 4-1 aggregate win for the Spanish side as FC Barcelona became the final team to secure their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Despite the scoreline, Chelsea FC put in an admirable performance as they were beaten by the Spanish side at Camp Nou.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand feels that the Blues deserve credit for the way they approached the game against the La Liga leaders.
Speaking to BT Sport on Wednesday night, Ferdinand said: “They’ve gone out fighting. The fans can take heart from it.
“They tried, they created chances and on another day they would have scored a couple of goals. When your chances do come, you have to be clinical – and Barcelona were that today.”
The result leaves Chelsea FC playing for the FA Cup and a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
The west London side must now dust themselves down as they prepare for their crunch FA Cup quarter-final clash against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Chelsea FC won the Premier League last season but they are currently fifth in the table.
