Garth Crooks singled out Fikayo Tomori for special praise after his brilliant goal helped Chelsea FC claim a 5-2 win over Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

The 21-year-old fired home a brilliant effort in the 31st minute to open the scoring for the west London side.

Tammy Abraham then scored a hat-trick and Mason Mount added a fifth late on as Frank Lampard’s men secured a much-needed win.

Tomori’s goal helped the Blues on their way towards victory, and BBC Sport pundit Crooks was clearly highly impressed by the opening strike.

Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Crooks said: “What a goal. What’s more he meant it. This performance by this youngster was outstanding and his goal only tells half the story.

“Playing in a back three, he was amazing. Tomori’s confidence to take the ball into the danger area and provide the assist for Tammy Abraham suggest this lad is no ordinary defender. This is someone I intend keeping my eye on.

“As for Wolves’ Raul Jimenez, it’s hardly surprising their centre-forward looked dead on his feet – he only returned from Mexico City on Thursday morning and expects to bother Chelsea 48 hours later? Wolves can’t handle Europe and international breaks. Ditch Europe.”

Tomori has started two of Chelsea FC’s five Premier League games so far this season under Lampard.

The west London side will return to Premier League action next weekend when they host table toppers Liverpool FC at Stamford Bridge in a crunch clash.

Before that, the Blues will take on Valencia at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The west Londoners currently find themselves in sixth place in the Premier League table after having won two of their opening five games of the campaign under Lampard.

The Blues finished third and won the Europa League under Maurizio Sarri last term.
