Frank Lampard is tipping Mateo Kovacic to be a key player for Chelsea FC next season
Frank Lampard feels sure that Mateo Kovacic will be a top quality player for Chelsea FC next season.
The Blues chose to sign the Croatia international on a permanent deal this summer after his season-long loan spell at Chelsea FC from Real Madrid last season.
Kovacic was a regular in the first team at Chelsea FC under Maurizio Sarri last term but failed to score a goal in 32 Premier League appearances for the west London club.
The 25-year-old will be hoping to hold down a regular spot in the Chelsea FC team next season after Lampard’s appointment as the club’s new manager.
And the new Chelsea FC boss seemingly has high hopes for Kovacic next season as he looks to help the Blues challenge for the Premier League title.
Speaking after Chelsea FC’s 2-1 win over FC Barcelona in Japan, Lampard said: “I really liked Kovacic last season, I watched Chelsea a lot.
“I saw lots in his game I really liked and what I’ve found here on this tour from the first day he turned up is a hungry attitude, desire to work and an incredible talent on the ball and I want to work with him and help him improve.
“I think there’s so much talent there and I really like him.
“I’m really pleased, we know we’ve got numbers in midfield areas but I can’t help but be excited by some of the elements in his performance today and I think there’s even more to come.”
Chelsea FC are looking to maintain their place in the top four and push for the Premier League title next season.
The Blues finished in third place in the Premier League and won the Europa League last season in what turned out to be Sarri’s only campaign in charge of the west London club.
