Frank Lampard has insisted that his Chelsea FC team will focus on trying to win the Premier League title next season.

The 41-year-old is now settling in to life as the west London club’s new manager after he was brought in as Maurizio Sarri’s replacement last month.

Lampard will be focused on helping the Blues to retain their place in the top four next season, after they finished third and won the Europa League last term.

The Blues are currently serving a two-window transfer ban, meaning that they have not been able to sign any new players this summer.

They have, however, been able to tie up deals for Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic, as they were both agreed before this summer.

Attentions will now turn towards the new Premier League season and Lampard’s attempts to guide the Blues to a title challenge.

And Lampard has now opened up about the targets for the new campaign with the Blues.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Lampard said: “The only way I know to change that gap is through absolute hard work and focus.

“Those basics don’t change, and with the transfer ban there is even more clarity because we can’t bring in players.

“Every day I read City are buying and Manchester United are going to buy. All these teams are going to do business and that’s going to strengthen them.

“So we have to be realistic, but then I see every day the quality we have here. And I think about the players not here like Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Willian, Antonio Rudiger and Reece James, and I think we have a competitive squad. I believe in them and there’s more because we have a lot of younger players.

“There can be an uplift. That’s not me saying I’m going to make the difference. It will be the players who make the difference.

“So there’s the challenge. Now, can we win the league? It’s going to be a big ask. But we have to set out with that mind-set.”

Chelsea FC have also had to contend with the loss of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid this summer.

The west London side have not won the Premier League since their triumph under Antonio Conte in 2017.
