John Terry reacts to Chelsea FC’s appointment of Frank Lampard
John Terry has his say on Chelsea FC's decision to appoint Frank Lampard as the club's new manager
John Terry believes that it is “perfect timing” for Frank Lampard to take over at Chelsea FC.
The 41-year-old was officially unveiled as the club’s new manager last week after he signed a three-year deal to take over at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard has been brought in as Maurizio Sarri’s successor after the Italian opted to leave Stamford Bridge and take over at Juventus last month.
Sarri was only in charge at Stamford Bridge for a year but he managed to guide the Blues to a third-placed finish in the Premier League and the Europa League title.
Lampard, meanwhile, joins Chelsea FC with only a year’s worth of managerial experience under his belt, with the former England star having been in charge of Derby County last term.
Now, his former team-mate Terry has issued his strong backing of Lampard after he was officially appointed last week.
Speaking in an interview with Chelsea FC’s website, Terry said: “It’s perfect timing for him and the club. Frank was under pressure to succeed at Chelsea the day he arrived from West Ham and he never hid from that.
“He revelled in it and went on to become Chelsea’s greatest ever player. Lamps is a legend and now is the right time for him to come home.
“Frank has always been a great communicator. In the dressing room, we would have Didier Drogba or Michael Ballack or Petr Cech – they may have been big voices but they would listen to Frank.
“He would have this calm demeanour and way of delivering a message that would empower you and I’m positive he will have the same effect on these Chelsea players, whether young or older.”
Lampard will be aiming to at least guide Chelsea FC to a top-four finish in the Premier League next season after they finished third last term.
The Blues will also be aiming to compete in the Champions League next term under their new boss.
