Mateo Kovacic gives his thoughts on Frank Lampard taking over as Chelsea FC boss
Mateo Kovacic has revealed that he is hoping that Frank Lampard will help him to score more goals next season for Chelsea FC.
Lampard, 41, was confirmed as the club’s new manager earlier this month after Maurizio Sarri departed Stamford Bridge to take over at Juventus after just a year in charge.
Kovacic is currently preparing for his second season at Stamford Bridge after his loan deal from Real Madrid was made permanent this summer.
The Croatia international was not exactly prolific in front of goal for the Blues last season – he did not find the net once despite making more than 30 appearances in the Premier League.
Now, the 25-year-old has admitted that he is hoping to learn from Chelsea FC’s all-time record goal-scorer Lampard when it comes to converting chances.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Kovacic said: “I’m looking forward to working with him a lot. He was an amazing player and he showed last season that he is a good coach as well.
“I’m looking forward to learning how to score from him because he scored quite a lot and me not so much last season!
“I’m maybe not exactly the same type of midfielder as he was but he had some strong abilities, especially scoring goals.
“He was a hard worker so I’m looking forward to being better in this aspect, in working hard, fighting on the pitch and scoring goals.”
Chelsea FC will kick off their Premier League campaign with a crunch showdown against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 11 August.
The Blues are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title next season after they finished third and won the Europa League in Sarri’s one and only season in charge of the club.
