Frank Lampard sends message to Chelsea FC players after Bournemouth defeat
Frank Lampard has his say on Chelsea FC's disappointing 1-0 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday
Frank Lampard has told his Chelsea FC players that they must find more “urgency” in their game after their 1-0 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Blues have been struggling to find consistent form in recent weeks and their loss to the Cherries at Stamford Bridge in front of their home fans was their third defeat in four Premier League outings.
That run of results has caused Chelsea FC to loosen their grip on fourth place in the Premier League table as they bid to try and get their campaign back in track during the hectic festive period.
Chelsea FC enjoyed 68 per cent of possession against Eddie Howe’s men but they were only able to muster five shots on target in the clash in west London.
And Lampard has admitted that the Blues have plenty of room for improvement as they look to step their game up in the coming weeks.
Asked about what he wanted from his players, Lampard told his post-match news conference: “Urgency in our play. If you’re transferring the ball then transfer it quickly from side to side.
“If you’re playing through the lines because that’s the kind of player you are then get it through the lines.
“If you’re an attacking player, get at people, do things that are positive and don’t play safe. We played generally too safe throughout the game.”
He added: “I’m disappointed.
“I did feel guarded against this when everyone on the outside was getting excited with seven wins on the trot.
“I was more level-headed because I felt there was more work to do and now we see there is definitely more work to do.”
Chelsea FC will now dust themselves down as they turn their attentions towards their Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon in their final game before Christmas.
They will then take on Southampton, Arsenal and Brighton and Hove Albion over the festive period.
