Frank Lampard has described Tammy Abraham as “a sponge” because the Chelsea FC striker is always prepared to listen and work on improving his game.

The young forward has been a regular fixture in the Chelsea FC team so far this season and he has been in good form for Lampard’s men so far.

The 22-year-old has scored an impressive eight goals in nine Premier League appearances so far this term to help the Blues challenge for a top-four spot.

Abraham played the full 90 minutes of Chelsea FC’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday and although he did not get on the score-sheet, Lampard has indicated that he was pleased with his performance.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Chelsea FC’s website, Lampard said: “What you see with Tammy is what you get: physicality, movement and enthusiasm to keep trying to be a problem for the defenders.

“I’ve got nice problems up front. We’ve got Giroud and Batshuayi who, to give them both credit, have shown great professionalism, training at a level, and they’ll get their chances as well because it’s a long season.

“But at the moment Tammy, with regular goals and being a big part of getting us to where we are at the moment, has been playing.

“He’s a sponge – he wants to listen, to get better, to score more goals, improve his game and help his team-mates.

“He’s got the beautiful base of that in terms of coaching. The goals, and performances, will show him what he can do at this level and hopefully can move him up the levels even more.”

Abraham will be hoping to start up front again for Chelsea FC when the Blues take on Ajax away from home in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Blues will then return to Premier League action with a trip to Burnley on Saturday night as they look to make it four wins on the spin under Lampard.
