Craig Burley predicts where Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC will finish this season
Craig Burley admits that a top-four finish for Chelsea FC in the Premier League is far from secure
Craig Burley is backing Liverpool FC to finish in the top four this season but says Chelsea FC’s chances are 50/50.
The Blues suffered a damaging blow to their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League when they slumped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
That result left Antonio Conte’s men outside the top four and in fifth place in the Premier League table as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.
Liverpool FC, meanwhile, have been in brilliant form in recent weeks and Jurgen Klopp’s men are currently in third place in the table as they look on course to secure a top-four finish for the second season running.
Chelsea FC will face another test of their top-four credentials this weekend when they take on leaders Manchester City at The Etihad on Sunday.
And Burley feels that a finish in the Champions League spots for the Blues this season is far from secure.
Speaking to ESPN FC, Burley said: “Are they [Chelsea] going to get in the top-four?
“If you asked me six weeks ago I would have said yes.
“But I think it’s 50/50 now because Liverpool are playing better, United will scratch results out, City are gone, Tottenham are playing better.”
Chelsea FC won the Premier League title under Antonio Conte last term but they have struggled to find consistent form in the top flight this season under the Italian manager.
