Maurizio Sarri quiet on Chelsea FC’s signing of Christian Pulisic
Maurizio Sarri has his brief say on Chelsea FC's signing of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund
Maurizio Sarri has given a cryptic response when asked whether he would have liked to have been able to call on Christian Pulisic’s services this season for Chelsea FC.
The Blues confirmed a deal to bring the 20-year-old USA international to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, but the attacker has been loaned back to Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.
Pulisic will link up with Chelsea FC in the summer as he prepares for a new challenge in the Premier League.
With the January transfer window now open, Chelsea FC are being linked with a number of potential reinforcements as Sarri considers bolstering his squad.
And Sarri refused to be drawn on whether he was upset that Pulisic was not immediately brought to Chelsea FC this month rather than the summer.
Asked if he would have liked to be able to call upon the services of Pulisic sooner, Sarri told his news conference at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night after the goalless draw with Southampton: “I don’t know.
“I’m not in charge of the market so it’s very difficult to speak about the market or the Pulisic deal.
“The board know my opinion. I think we need something different for characteristics.”
In a separate interview quoted by Metro, Sarri said: “I didn’t know anything about Pulisic yesterday [on Wednesday].
“The club asked my opinion about him about one month ago. My opinion was positive. Today I have known that the deal is done but I didn’t know anything.”
Wednesday night’s draw with the Saints left Chelsea FC fourth in the table and just three points ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal.
The Blues will take on Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
