Antonio Conte drops hint about new Chelsea FC signing and Willian ahead of Watford clash
Antonio Conte delivers the latest update on Olivier Giroud after the striker's move to Chelsea FC from Arsenal
Antonio Conte has hinted that Olivier Giroud may not be ready to start for Chelsea FC for the Premier League clash with Watford on Monday night.
The 31-year-old striker signed for the Blues from London rivals Arsenal last week as Conte moved to bolster his attacking options at Stamford Bridge.
The switch came after Chelsea FC agreed to loan Michy Batshuayi to German side Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.
Giroud will now be hoping to nail down a regular spot in the Chelsea team between now and the end of the season as he bids to try and win a place in the France squad for this summer’s World Cup.
The striker found his playing opportunities to be limited at Arsenal this term and he only started one Premier League game for the Gunners.
Chelsea FC are currently preparing for their trip to Watford on Monday night, but Conte has suggested that Giroud may not quite be ready to start that game, especially as Willian may be available again.
Speaking at a news conference at Cobham on Friday afternoon, Conte said: “Giroud we are starting to work with him but we have to check his physical condition, for sure it won’t be easy to see him play from the start on Monday.
“But remember we will maybe have Willian available and in this case the opportunity doesn’t change.”
Chelsea FC head into the game looking desperately to get back to winning ways in the Premier League after their shock 3-0 loss to Bournemouth in the top flight last week.
