Antonio Conte has admitted that he has been impressed by Ross Barkley’s attitude and determination since signing for Chelsea FC in the January transfer window.
The midfielder has been getting used to life at Stamford Bridge after joining the Blues from Everton at the turn of the year, but he has struggled with fitness issues since the move.
Barkley will now be hoping that he has fully recovered from the muscular injury which has hampered him in recent weeks as he looks to get his campaign back on track.
The 24-year-old will be bidding to prove himself to Conte as he looks to try and earn a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge and secure a place in the England squad for this summer’s World Cup.
And the Chelsea FC manager has admitted that he has been impressed by what he has seen from the midfielder during his first few weeks of working with the midfielder.
Speaking at a news conference at Cobham on Friday, Conte said of Barkley: “With Ross, he had a really bad injury with Everton.
“When you have this type of bad injury you must have great passion – to try to work very well, but at the same time when you are arriving with a bad injury after a long period that you didn’t play, the risk to have little injuries is greater than another player.
“But Ross is a good, young player and a really good guy, and now he needs to put all of himself to try to recover the time and show that he deserves a place to play at the World Cup.”
Chelsea FC now have the week off to prepare for their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge next Saturday evening.
The Blues are aiming to at least finish in the top four this season.
