Maurizio Sarri issues top-four challenge to Chelsea FC squad
Maurizio Sarri challenges his Chelsea FC squad to book their place in the top four this season with two wins
Maurizio Sarri has challenged his Chelsea FC players to win their final two Premier League games and book their place in next season’s Champions League.
The Blues find themselves in fourth place in the Premier League table and they know that winning their final two fixtures will secure their place in the top four this season.
Chelsea FC earned a 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Sunday as Marcos Alonso’s equaliser cancelled out Juan Mata’s opener at Old Trafford.
The west London side will take on Watford and Leicester in their remaining two Premier League games, knowing that two wins will guarantee their place in the top four this term.
Chelsea FC are also gunning for glory in the Europa League, and Sarri’s men will take on Frankfurt in the first leg of their semi-final tie on Thursday night.
Now, Sarri has challenged his side to win their remaining two games against Watford and Leicester to make a top-four finish secure.
Speaking at a news conference after Sunday’s game, Sarri said: “We need two wins. With two wins we are sure. With four points, I don’t know, it depends on goal difference.”
David De Gea was at fault in the Manchester United goal for Alonso’s equaliser at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
And Sarri had some words of encouragement for the Red Devils shot-stopper.
He added: “It can happen. He is a great goalkeeper. He is unlucky in the last period I think.
“Of course sometimes you have a striker who is not able to score for two months, and sometimes you have a goalkeeper in difficulty for three or four matches. This is their job. It’s impossible to stay a very high level for 12 months.”
