Maurizio Sarri reacts to N’Golo Kante’s display in Chelsea FC’s 1-0 win at Palace
Maurizio Sarri has his say on N'Golo Kante's goal after Chelsea FC's 1-0 win at Crystal Palace on Sunday
Maurizio Sarri praised N’Golo Kante for his contribution after the midfielder fired Chelsea FC to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The France international netted what turned out to be the only goal of the game in the 51st minute at Selhurst Park when he controlled David Luiz’s pass on his chest and fired home.
The win left Chelsea FC in fourth place in the Premier League table heading into the new year as they aim to secure Champions League qualification for next season.
Sarri was clearly pleased with Kante’s goal and performance, but he was quick to turn his attentions to the way his side can improve on the pitch in 2019.
Asked about Kante’s goal, Sarri told BBC Sport: “He is improving with the right timing and good movement and now I think that we have to work on Ross Barkley.”
He continued: “We now need continuity because in the last five matches we played very well in three, and badly in two, so now is the moment to have continuity.”
The Italian manager then went on to admit that he is somewhat concerned by Chelsea FC’s growing injury problems.
Sarri added: “We have to play 19 matches, so other team’s results are not important but it is crucial to have continuity. In two days we have had four injuries, with Cesc Fabregas, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Danny Drinkwater, and then today Olivier Giroud. We will have to see how long he is out for.”
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Wednesday when they take on Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues currently find themselves in fourth place in the Premier League table and 11 points behind leaders Liverpool FC, who are unbeaten and thrashed Arsenal 5-1 on Saturday night at Anfield.
