Wayne Rooney has claimed that Chelsea FC’s performance against Watford on Monday night was the worst he had seen them play in more than a decade.

The Blues were reduced to 10 men in the first half when Tiemoue Bakayoko was shown two yellow cards and the west London side ended up crashing to a 4-1 loss at Vicarage Road.

That disappointing result followed Chelsea FC’s shock 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge last week as the Blues suffered two successive blows to their hopes of finishing in the top four this season.

Chelsea FC remain in fourth place in the Premier League table but they are now just one point ahead of Tottenham Hotspur as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.

And Rooney has claimed that Chelsea FC have some serious work to do if they are to bounce back when they host West Brom in their next game on Monday night next week.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Rooney said: “That’s not Chelsea – you don’t identify that performance with a Chelsea team.

“That’s as bad a performance I have seen from a Chelsea team in a long long time.

“I don’t think I’ve seen a Chelsea team play like that in 10 or 15 years.”

Chelsea FC won the Premier League title in style in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge last term but they did not have the distraction of European football.

The Blues will take on FC Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League this month.
