Chelsea FC do have a genuine interest in West Ham striker Andy Carroll, according to reporter Bryan Swanson.

The defending Premier League champions are in the market to sign a proven striker in the January transfer window.

The England international has emerged as a surprise target for the defending Premier League champions over the past couple of weeks.

Alvaro Morata has endured a dramatic slump in confidence and form to highlight the west London side’s need to have adequate back up.

The Premier League title holders have surprised some pundits with their pursuit of the injury-prone 29-year-old striker.

Sky Sports News reporter Swanson believes Chelsea’s interest in Carroll is genuine despite the surprise bid.

“Conte hasn’t rushed out and denied it. He hasn’t put it to bed. You just feel this [Carroll to Chelsea talk] has legs,” Swanson told the Transfer Talk podcast.

Chelsea have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons under Jose Mourinho and then Antonio Conte.

The Blues have plenty of competition for a first-team spot in midfield given the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge.

The west London side are in fourth place in the Premier League table.
