Chelsea FC have joined Inter Milan in the race to sign AS Roma star Alessandro Florenzi this summer, according to reports in Italy.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, as quoted by The Sun, is reporting that the Blues have entered the race to sign the 27-year-old midfielder this summer.

The same report says that the midfielder is likely to be on the market this summer due to a breakdown in negotiations about a new deal with AS Roma.

Florenzi is reportedly said to be demanding £3.5m-a-year in wages before extending his deal past 2019.

The article, though, says AS Roma have no intention of paying him that much and they could now look to cash-in on him this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Chelsea FC are believed to be on the lookout for a number of key signings this summer despite the uncertainty about the managerial situation at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues finished fifth in the Premier League table and won the FA Cup last season in what was Antonio Conte’s second campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge.

The west London side will have to make do without Champions League football next season after their disappointing campaign this term.
