Arjen Robben urges Chelsea FC starlet to move to Bayern Munich
The Bayern winger tells Chelsea FC teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi to move to the German club
Arjen Robben has encouraged Chelsea FC teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi to move to Bayern Munich in the January transfer window.
The 18-year-old has been linked with a move to the Bundesliga champions over the past couple of weeks in one of the surprise transfer stories this month.
Hudson-Odoi has only made six appearances in all competitions in his first season under Maurizio Sarri, but Bayern haven’t been deterred by his lack of first-team experience.
A report in England earlier this week suggested that Chelsea FC would ask for an offer of around £35m for the teenager from the German champions.
Chelsea FC signed Christian Pulisic in a £58m deal from Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window before loaning the American back to the Bundesliga leaders.
Robben netted 19 times in 105 games during three seasons at Chelsea FC before the Dutch winger moved to Real Madrid having won two Premier League titles under Jose Mourinho.
The 34-year-old has established himself as a key player at Bayern over the past decade, playing a big role in their period of dominance in German top-flight football.
And the Bayern winger has urged Hudson-Odoi to move to the Allianz Arena.
“He is one of the best (young players) in Europe. You are better off getting your chance and if you get that chance then you have to take it,” Robben told beIN Sports, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.
“For young players, it’s always the same. First, you have to take the big step to achieve it. Become a professional football player at the highest level, get into the first team, get your place.
“Then, second, which can be more important, what’s sometimes missing is that you have to stay there. Staying there is often more difficult than actually becoming a footballer in the first place.
“You have to to prove it, game after game, season after season and don’t be happy.
“Don’t just be happy when you achieve something little or small.”
Hudson-Odoi has made 11 senior appearances for Chelsea FC over the past two seasons.
The Blues appointed Sarri as Antonio Conte’s replacement in the summer.
