Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Chelsea FC v Crystal Palace
BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson is tipping Chelsea FC to ease to a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Saturday
Mark Lawrenson is predicting that Chelsea FC will ease to a comfortable win against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues will host their London rivals fresh from an entertaining fixture in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Chelsea FC rallied from 4-1 down to secure a point in a 4-4 draw with nine man Ajax at Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard’s side have the opportunity to win six successive Premier League games for the first time since the west London side won the title under Antonio Conte back in May.
The Blues are in fourth position in the Premier League table and have the opportunity to potentially hoist themselves above third-placed Leicester City, who will take on Arsenal later on Saturday.
Crystal Palace have failed to win their last three Premier League games, conceding six goals.
However, the Eagles were 2-1 winners against Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier this term before a 1-1 draw at Arsenal last month.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Chelsea FC to secure three points against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
“Crystal Palace were undone by a good Leicester performance last time out, but I actually thought the Eagles played pretty well too despite their defeat,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“They will be a decent test for an in-form Chelsea team, who are going for their sixth-straight league win.
“The Blues had a strange result against Ajax in midweek with their 4-4-draw in the Champions League but, although they didn’t win, their night still had plenty of positives after they came back from 4-1 down.
“Before the season started, I thought Frank Lampard’s side would struggle in attack, but they are exactly the opposite – they are getting goals from everywhere.
“Lampard has only been a manager since the summer of 2018, while Palace boss Roy Hodgson has been one for 43 years. I don’t think all of Hodgson’s experience will help him get him a win at the Bridge, though.”
Chelsea FC haven’t won the Premier League title since 201, when Antonio Conte led the Blues to 30 victories in an individual campaign.
The Blues are in fourth position in the Premier League table and six points ahead of Arsenal in fifth.
