Mark Lawrenson reveals his prediction for Chelsea FC v Liverpool FC
Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC's clash in the Premier League on Saturday
Mark Lawrenson is backing Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC to play out a 1-1 draw in the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
The Blues head into their home clash against Jurgen Klopp’s men fresh from their thrilling 2-1 win over the Reds in the League Cup third round on Wednesday night.
Eden Hazard was in fine form once again as he came off the bench to fire home a brilliant winner and book Maurizio Sarri’s side a place in the next round.
Liverpool FC head to Stamford Bridge looking to maintain their 100 per cent start to the new season after the Reds won all six of their opening Premier League games this term.
Chelsea FC, meanwhile, know that a win over the visitors this weekend would move them a point clear of Klopp’s side.
But former Liverpool FC man Lawrenson is backing both of the teams to share the spoils when they go head to head in south west London on Saturday night.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “I don’t think Chelsea’s win at Anfield in the Carabao Cup will have any bearing on this game – there will not be too many players from either side who started on Wednesday night that will also start on Saturday evening.
“Maurizio Sarri has done a great job after taking charge of Chelsea over the summer but, even with home advantage, he will know the threat that Liverpool carry.
“I am going to go for a draw here, and that would be a good result for both teams.”
Chelsea FC are aiming to at least break back into the top four this season after they finished in fifth place and won the FA Cup last term under Antonio Conte.
