Arsene Wenger opens up about Olivier Giroud's move to Chelsea FC from Arsenal in the January window
Arsene Wenger has described Olivier Giroud as “an Arsenal man” despite his transfer to Chelsea FC from the Gunners back in January.
Wenger deemed the French striker to be surplus to requirements at The Emirates in the mid-season window as he allowed the 31-year-old forward to leave Arsenal and sign for their London rivals.
The striker had found his playing time at Arsenal to be severely restricted this season and so he chose to move to Chelsea FC to boost his chances of being selected for France’s World Cup squad this summer.
And the Arsenal manager has lifted the lid on Giroud’s decision to leave the north London club in the January transfer window.
Wenger is quoted as saying by Metro: “Olivier is an Arsenal man as well.
“He left for similar reasons to Theo Walcott, by being sad to leave but also objective enough to analyse his situation.
“His professional career demanded that he moved, but his heart wanted him to stay. Both Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud are similar cases on that front.”
Giroud has scored one goal and made one assist in all competitions for Chelsea FC so far this season following his move from Arsenal at the turn of the year.
The striker will be hoping to feature for the Blues when they return to Premier League action after the international break with a crunch clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea FC are currently fifth in the table as they bid to break back into the top four before the season is out.
