Frank Lampard has warned Chelsea that their home form has not been good enough ahead of Southampton’s visit to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Despite boasting an impressive away record of seven wins and two draws from 11 games, the Blues have only won five home games all season, drawing three and losing two.

The west Londoners’ latest setback came at the hands of Premier League basement club Queens Park Rangers, who sealed a shock 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge at the beginning of the year.

And Lampard insists the Blues, who won 4-0 at Stoke on Saturday, are focused on improving their home record ahead of Wednesday’s clash, as Chelsea look to move within four points of second-placed Manchester City.

“At the moment we are a better away team than home team because the results speak for themselves but that has got to change against Southampton on Wednesday,” Lampard told Chelsea’s website.

“We have to start quicker and get the movement and the passing going like we did at Stoke.

“We can play different ways and we are doing it well away from home, but it is a case of sustaining things when you are attacking – following up the play and trying to play quickly on either side. It is all things we can do and I think people will see us do it now. We have to.

“I hate the idea of standards dropping and we have been up there a long time trying to win the league, or a bad year was coming second.

“The minute you drop your standards too far below then you will settle for that and there is a desire and a determination among the players and the staff, from the squad and the club to keep where we want to be.”

Lampard’s penalty in the win at Stoke City was his 194th for the club and puts him clear of Kerry Dixon as Chelsea’s second-highest scorer of all-time.

The England international is now just eight goals away from equalling Bobby Tambling’s record total.
