Jose Mourinho has admitted he is thrilled to see Everton striker Romelu Lukaku scoring against Chelsea’s Premier League title rivals.

Lukaku, who moved to Goodison Park on a season-long loan from the Blues on deadline day, netted twice in the Merseyside derby as he helped put the Toffees into a 3-2 lead until Daniel Sturridge’s late leveller.

The Belgium international has scored seven goals in eight Premier League appearances following his switch, including a strike in a 3-1 loss to title favourites Manchester City in September.

And Mourinho joked that it is “phenomenal” that he has a Chelsea star playing for another Premier League club, still helping the west London side’s bid to win the top-flight crown this season.

“I’m happy that he’s scoring goals against our direct rivals. He doesn’t score against us because he can’t,” Mourinho said.

“It’s phenomenal that you have a player that, even though he’s not scoring for you, he’s scoring against you opponent.

“From a practical point of view [he] is very, very good. He’s there [at Everton and] it’s good for his evolution. It’s good for Chelsea because he belongs to us for a long time.”

Earlier on Friday, Lukaku revealed that he had not spoken to Mourinho since completing a loan move to Everton, which promoted the Chelsea boss to criticise the 20-year-old.

And after Mourinho called on Lukaku to reveal the reason behind his temporary switch, the Blues boss added that the striker should tell the whole story or keep quiet.

He added: “I just think when you keep quiet all the time, you keep quiet all the time. When you like to speak, speak [about] everything. Don’t speak [about] only half of it. Speak everything. It’s a simple question – why do you leave Chelsea?”
