Juan Mata is desperate to help Chelsea bounce back from the disappointment of their FA Cup semi-final exit at the hands of Manchester City by winning the Europa League this season.

The Blues were beaten 2-1 by the Citizens at Wembley on Sunday to leave Europe’s second-tier club competition as Chelsea’s only remaining hope of silverware this term.

And although the Spanish playmaker could not hide his disappointment at Chelsea’s failure to defend their FA Cup crown, the 24-year-old is determined to help the west Londoners triumph in Europe.

“It [the defeat by City] is a pity because one of our goals for the rest of the season has vanished, but we have to keep looking ahead and carry on,” Mata wrote on his blog on grada360.com.

“We still have the chance to win a trophy, the Europa League. Last week we travelled to Moscow and got a ticket to the semi-finals, where we will face Basel. We will try to get a new title for the club, as we did last season.”

Chelsea are also looking to secure their route into next season’s Champions League.

The Blues, who travel to Fulham on Wednesday night, are currently fourth in the Premier League table with seven games left to play.

He added: “We will also look after the Premier League, of course, since there is another important match ahead on Wednesday against Fulham.

“Our aim is to finish in the Champions League [places], and in order to do so is vital to add points in threes.”
