Alan Shearer: Chelsea lost to Arsenal because of ‘partying’ after title win
Alan Shearer claims Chelsea struggled against Arsenal in the FA Cup final because of celebrating their title win too much
Alan Shearer has suggested that Chelsea struggled against Arsenal in the FA Cup final because of “partying” too much following their Premier League title win.
The west London club were thoroughly outplayed by the Gunners at Wembley on Saturday as they slumped to a disappointing 2-1 loss and missed out on the chance to win the double in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at the club.
Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey secured the victory for Arsenal despite Diego Costa’s second-half equaliser at Wembley.
Chelsea were crowned Premier League champions for the second time in three years in the build-up to Saturday’s final.
And former Newcastle United striker Shearer has suggested that Chelsea’s players looked like they had been celebrating too much in the lead-up to Saturday’s game.
Shearer told BBC Sport: “It is two weeks since Chelsea won the Premier League title at the Hawthorns and, by the looks of things, they have done a lot of partying since.”
Chelsea will still look back on a positive debut season under Conte, however, as they secured the title and with it a return to next season’s Champions League.
