Jamie Redknapp sends message to Chelsea supporters about summer signing
The former Liverpool midfielder was impressed with Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko on his Premier League debut
Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise on Tiemoue Bakayoko after the Chelsea midfielder’s assured performance in a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The defending Premier League champions made the trip to Wembley to take on their bitter London rivals in Tottenham’s first top flight game at the home of English football.
Chelsea were looking to bounce back from a surprise 3-2 loss to Burnley in their opening Premier League game of the new season at Stamford Bridge.
The west London side were without summer signing Bakayoko as the 23-year-old continued his recovery from a knee problem.
However, Antonio Conte handed the French midfielder his first Premier League start at Wembley since his £40m move from Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco.
Bakayoko impressed in the heart of the Chelsea team to help the defending champions ease to a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp was impressed with Bakayoko’s performance in the London derby on his first Premier League start.
“I thought Chelsea might miss Chalobah against Tottenham but Tiemoue Bakayoko was composed and powerful in midfield at Wembley,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“It was a huge result for Chelsea — who still have the league’s best player in Eden Hazard to return from injury!”
Chelsea have also signed AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata and Manchester City shot stopper Willy Caballero.
The Blues won the Premier League title with two games to spare last term in their first season under Antonio Conte.
