Former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp expects to see Virgil van Dijk leave Southampton in the summer
Jamie Redknapp has tipped Virgil van Dijk to leave Southampton before the close of the summer transfer window.
The Netherlands international’s future has been a source of relentless debate in the summer transfer window since it emerged Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City were keeping tabs on the defender.
Liverpool were forced to issue a statement apologising to Southampton about their pursuit of Van Dijk, while the Reds officially ended their interest in the 26-year-old.
Van Dijk handed in a transfer request at Southampton on Monday in an attempt to force through a move to a club playing in the Champions League this season.
Liverpool continue to be linked with the former Celtic defender, while Chelsea have also been reported with an interest in the SPL winner in the summer transfer window.
Former Reds skipper Redknapp believes Southampton captain Van Dijk will leave St Mary’s in the summer transfer window despite the Saints’ reluctance to sell.
“He goes,” Redknapp told The Debate told Sky Sports.
“It’s an absolute certainty. He won’t play for Southampton again. They will get a fortune for him.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
