Chelsea are ready to splash the cash on five new summer signings before the close of the transfer window at the end of the month, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Express is reporting that the Blues are ready to spend big on bolstering their squad as Antonio Conte prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next month.

The same story says that Chelsea boss Conte has his “sights” on five new signings as he looks to further bolster his squad before the close of the transfer window.

The article claims that Chelsea want to sign Southampton trio Virgil van Dijk, Cedric Soares and Ryan Bertrand as he looks to bolster his defensive options.

The same report also links Chelsea with big-money bids to try and sign Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal.

Chelsea have been relatively active in the summer transfer window so far, having tied up deals for Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata.

However, the Blues continue to be linked with a number of other players as the summer transfer window approaches its conclusion.

Chelsea are preparing for a return to the Champions League this season after they won the Premier League last term.
