Andrea Pirlo replies when asked if he’ll join Antonio Conte at Chelsea
Andrea Pirlo refuses to rule out the possibility of joining the coaching staff at Chelsea under Antonio Conte
Andrea Pirlo remained coy when asked if he could be set to join Antonio Conte in a coaching role at Chelsea.
The 38-year-old midfielder has announced his decision to hang up his boots and he will play his last game for New York City at the end of the MLS season.
Pirlo is then set to return to Italy and has been widely tipped to take up a coaching role.
However, the playmaker has refused to confirm where he will begin his career when quizzed about the possibility of linking up with Conte at Chelsea.
Pirlo told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “You realise that the time has come.
“Every day you have physical problems, you are no longer able to train as you would like because you always have some problem.
“At my age you have to say enough. It is not as if you can keep going till you are 50. I will do something else. My future, I don’t know yet. I will will return to Italy in December.
“An assistant to Conte? People are saying that. I have my ideas but I need time to decide.”
Conte has been a big success at Chelsea since taking over at the west London club in the summer of 2016.
The Italian manager guided Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first campaign in charge and the Blues are also looking to try and win the Champions League this season.
Pirlo knows Conte well, having played under him during his time in charge of the Italian national team.
Chelsea are aiming to get back to winning ways in the Premier League after the international break on Saturday when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
