Antonio Conte sends clear message to Chelsea fans about January signings
Antonio Conte insists that Chelsea's January transfer plans are in the hands of the club's board
Antonio Conte has insisted that Chelsea’s January transfer business will be conducted by the club’s board.
The Blues are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks as the January transfer window draws ever nearer.
The west London side were one of the Premier League’s busiest clubs in the summer transfer window as they completed deals to sign six players.
It remains to be seen just how active Chelsea will be in the mid-season transfer window but it would be sensible to assume that they will indeed be looking to strengthen their squad.
However, Conte has insisted that his focus is on getting the best out of his current players, allowing the club to oversee deals for any potential new recruits.
Speaking at a news conference at Cobham on Friday, Conte said: “I can tell you I’m very happy to work with these players and I’m very happy with the mentality we’ve created in the last one-and-a-half years.
“I’m very happy with the behaviour and commitment of my players, which is great for me, I’m proud.
“The club is then right to make the best decision if they see we can improve with some players [in January].
“Football is not simple. The most important thing is to have a very clear idea of where you are in the present and where you can stay in the future.
“It’s important to look at ourselves and try to improve in the right way. At my end, the way to improve is to work. At the other end there is the club and the transfer market.
“I can only speak about my end and the only way to improve is to continue to work with this mentality and desire in this league because I have fantastic players with me.”
Conte will now switch his focus towards preparing his Chelsea team for their crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
The Blues were beaten by the Gunners in the FA Cup final at Wembley back in May as they missed out on a domestic double.
Chelsea won the Premier League title in style in Conte’s first campaign at the club last season.
