Antonio Conte has revealed his delight at having Danny Drinkwater available for selection after injury hit start to the midfielder’s Chelsea career.

The England midfielder came on to play the final 15 minutes of Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening.

It’s been a frustrating start to life at Chelsea for Drinkwater since his move to Stamford Bridge from Leicester City back on transfer deadline day.

He has struggled with injury and only made his first appearance for the Blues in the League Cup win over Everton last week.

His absence has been made all the more testing for Chelsea because N’Golo Kante has been out injured over the last few weeks.

However, Conte has now revealed his delight at having most of his midfield players back available for selection again.

Speaking to BT Sport after Saturday’s victory over Bournemouth, Conte said: “Now we are recovering all the players.

“Today Drinkwater played for 15 minutes. N’Golo is almost ready to play with us. We have only [Victor] Moses [who is still injured].

“I think it’s very important to overcome this period and to continue in this way.”

Chelsea are now preparing for their crunch Champions League clash against Roma in Italy on Tuesday night.

The west London side, who are fourth and nine points off top spot, will then switch their focus back to Premier League affairs and their crunch clash against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge next weekend.
