Dennis Wise reacts to Michy Batshuayi’s display for Chelsea v Everton

Dennis Wise feels that Michy Batshuayi should have started Chelsea's clash with Everton on Saturday

Dennis Wise has admitted his frustration that Michy Batshuayi was not given more of a chance to affect the game in Chelsea’s goalless draw at Everton on Saturday afternoon.

With Alvaro Morata suspended, Antonio Conte opted not to start Batshuayi and instead only brought him on for the final 19 minutes at Goodison Park.

Conte chose to start with an attacking front-three of Willian, Pedro Rodriguez and Eden Hazard rather than deploy out and out striker Batshuayi.

And former Chelsea star Wise has admitted his disappointment that the Belgian striker was not given more of a chance to prove himself on Sunday.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the goalless draw, Wise said: “Chelsea didn’t create enough clear-cut chances. They were half-chances. They had the wrong personnel in the wrong place.

“What disappointed me about Chelsea was Michy Batshuayi coming on in the last 20 minutes. Get him on at half-time.

“It would have been nice to see him on for a lot longer.”

Chelsea’s draw left them in third place over Christmas as the Blues now look to try and get back to winning ways when they take on Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.

It looks increasingly unlikely that Chelsea will be able to retain their Premier League title this season.

The Blues won the title in style last term but Manchester City have been so dominant in recent weeks that it looks unlikely that they will slip-up.

Chelsea will take on Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League in February.
