Steven Gerrard has admitted that he would love to have played alongside Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata.

The Blues signed the Spain international in a £58m deal from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Morata wasted no time leaving his mark on the Premier League after an impressive return of six goals in seven games.

The 24-year-old centre-forward suffered a hamstring injury during a 1-0 loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Morata has failed to find the net in the Premier League since his hat-trick in a 4-0 win against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium in September.

Gerrard shared a brilliant partnership with Spanish centre-forward Fernando Torres during his Liverpool career.

Former Reds captain Gerrard admitted that he would like to have played alongside Morata during his career.

“He’s been brilliant. I am a big fan,” Gerrard told BT Sport.

“I would have loved to have played with him at some stage. He is a dream for a midfielder. He runs in behind.

“He makes really clever runs in the box. He is a big threat for Chelsea.”

Morata will be hoping to end his five-game goal drought when Chelsea take on Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.

Chelsea signed Morata to help replace Diego Costa after the Spanish forward returned to Atletico Madrid last month.

The west London side have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
