Claude Makelele has praised Chelsea signing Alvaro Morata for adapting to the Premier League.

The Spain international completed a £58m move to Chelsea from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the summer transfer window to improve their attacking options.

Morata has been drafted in to replace Diego Costa ahead of the controversial striker’s decision to return to Atletico Madrid despite winning two titles in three seasons at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old has scored six goals in seven games in the Premier League so far, including a brilliant hat-trick in a 4-0 win against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium last month.

Morata suffered a hamstring problem in the first half of Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

The Spanish forward could be sidelined for up to four weeks as the Blues look to recover ground on their title rivals.

Former Chelsea midfielder Makelele has been impressed with how quickly Morata has adapted to the Premier League since his move from Real Madrid.

“It’s tough in the Premier League, very tough,” Makelele told Sky Sports News on Friday morning. “I think he understands the Premier League.

“He understands also where he’s going to play, you want to give him more balls. I think he’s going to be happy at Chelsea, for sure.”

Chelsea won their second Premier League title in three seasons last term as Antonio Conte got his hands on the top-flight trophy for the first time.

The Blues signed six players in the summer transfer window.
