Frank Lampard: 30-year-old making Chelsea tick this season
The Chelsea legend believes Cesc Fabregas is key to the defending Premier League champions this season

Frank Lampard believes Cesc Fabregas is making the Chelsea team tick this season.
The defending Premier League champions have managed to recover from a slow start to the season to go seven games unbeaten to put some pressure under Manchester City and Manchester United at the top of the table.
Antonio Conte’s men lost to Burnley, Crystal Palace and Manchester City in their opening seven Premier League games to lose ground on Pep Guardiola’s men in the early stages of the season.
But Chelsea have since managed to beat their former manager Jose Mourinho and his impressive Manchester United side at Stamford Bridge thanks to Alvaro Morata’s second-half winner.
Chelsea have beaten Bournemouth, West Brom, Watford, Swansea City, Newcastle United and Manchester United, while the Blues secured a credible 1-1 draw at Liverpool.
Fabregas has played a key role getting Chelsea’s season back on track thanks to his excellent performance in a playmaker role with Tiemoue Bakayoko and N’Golo Kante for support.
Former Chelsea midfielder Lampard heaped praise on Fabregas for his high performance level in the Premier League this term.
“The formation’s changed this year which has made it easy for him to get in the team,” Lampard told BT Sport.
“He’s so good on the ball, at creating and keeping possession for the team. When he has defensive minded players with him it takes that responsibility away. He can make Chelsea tick and this year I think he’s done well.”
Chelsea are looking to win their third Premier League title in four seasons.
The Blues lost 2-1 to title rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup final last term.
