Jamie Redknapp makes worrying Chelsea claim about Man City performance

The Liverpool legend can't remember such a one-sided display between two title rivals in recent seasons after Man City won at Chelsea

Jamie Redknapp has described Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Chelsea on Saturday as “one of the most one-sided displays” between two titles rivals in recent Premier League history.

The Citizens made the trip to Stamford Bridge last weekend looking to protect their position at the top of the Premier League table after six games.

Chelsea managed to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to Burnley on the opening day of the 2017-18 season to go five games unbeaten in the Premier League ahead of the visit of Manchester City.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side produced a dominant performance in the top of the table clash at their title rivals as ex Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne scored a second-half winner.

Chelsea are now six point behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and Manchester United after seven games and the Blues have a far inferior goal difference.

Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp admitted that he couldn’t recall such a one-sided performance from a title contender at one of their top-four rivals in recent seasons.

“Manchester City have laid down a huge marker in the title race. They went to the home of the champions and took them back to school,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.

“It was one of the most one-sided displays I have seen from an away team in the Premier League against top-four rivals.

“At some point in their career, every player will experience a game where they are second best in every department. For many of the Chelsea players yesterday, that’s exactly what happened.”

Manchester City have scored 21 times and have conceded two goals in seven games in the Premier League title race so far this season.

The Red Devils kept pace with their derby rivals thanks to a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
