Pat Nevin: Michy Batshuayi is unstoppable if Chelsea provide the service

Pat Nevin believes Michy Batshuayi has the talent to be an unstoppable striker if Chelsea provide the Belgian striker with regular chances.

The 24-year-old came off the bench to rescue a 4-2 win for the defending champions against Watford at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Pedro broke the deadlock in west London before goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Roberto Pereyra either side of half-time to reverse the deficit.

Antonio Conte turned to Batshuayi as a 61st-minute substitute at Stamford Bridge and the Belgian levelled 10 minutes later with a superb header.

Cesar Apzilicueta scored a winner with three minutes to go before Batshuayi scored his second of the Premier League clash in added time.

Batshuayi was clearly frustrated when he was hauled off in the second half of Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace earlier this month in the absence of summer signing Alvaro Morata.

The former Marseille man has developed a knack of scoring important goals following his title-clinching strike at West Brom back in May before a dramatic winner at Atletico Madrid earlier this month.

Chelsea legend Nevin believes Batshuayi could be a clinical goal-scorer for the reigning Premier League champions if he receives good service.

“Michy Batshuayi is brought on for Alvaro Morata to a few raised eyebrows, he immediately scores two goals and looks unstoppable in front of the posts,” Nevin told Chelsea’s website.

“Actually, as I have mentioned here before, I have a suspicion he is generally unstoppable when you provide him with chances, even if his all-round play isn’t always quite to the standard of Alvaro.

“There have been plenty of great poacher strikers like that and they are priceless.”
