Alvaro Morata has moved to clear up his recent comments about his future at Chelsea.
The Spanish striker signed for the west London side from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window and has been getting used to life in the English capital since his move back in July.
Morata has been a regular fixture in the first team but he was recently quoted in an interview as saying that he may not like to stay in London for long.
However, the 25-year-old has moved to clarify his comments by insisting that his remarks related to the years after his career and that he would be willing to sign an even longer-term contract than the five-year deal he signed back in July
Speaking at a news conference before Chelsea’s clash with Roma on Tuesday night, Morata said: “In the interview I wanted to say in the future, when I finish my career, I probably won’t live in London, but right now I’m very happy there with my wife.
“I really like London now but probably in the future, when I want to send my child to school, when I finish my career, I would prefer to come back to my country, where I was born, that’s normal.
“I’m very happy. When I say it’s a stressful city I’m talking about the traffic and the fact there are a lot of people. But it’s an incredible city with many religions and many different kinds of people, I’m really enjoying London.
“If Chelsea had proposed a 10-year contract I would have signed it. I’m very happy at this club, in the city and with everything in London. I really like London.
“If I’m good and I improve, I could probably stay here for more than five years but I need to score many goals, otherwise Chelsea will buy another player, that’s normal.”
Morata will be hoping to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Premier League action this weekend with a crunch clash against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues head into that game looking to make it three wins in a row in the top flight after their victories over Watford and Bournemouth in recent weeks.
