Pundit gives blunt response when asked why Chelsea sold 29-year-old to Man United
Tony Gale questions why Chelsea sold Nemanja Matic to Manchester United in the summer
Tony Gale has admitted that he has no idea why Chelsea made the decision to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
The defending Premier League champions made the bizarre decision to allow Matic to move to their title rivals in a £40m deal in the summer transfer window.
The 29-year-old was part of title-winning sides at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte during his four-and-a-half year spell at the west London side.
Matic has already transformed the Manchester United side into the potential title contenders after providing Jose Mourinho’s midfield with a new-found balance.
Manchester United have already won six of their opening seven games to keep pace with leaders Manchester City at the top of the table.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have dropped points in three of their seven games in the 2017-18 season so far to raise questions about their title defence.
Former West Ham midfielder Gale questioned why Chelsea made the decision to sell Matic to their direct title rivals.
“He’s made the big difference for Man United,” Gale told Sky Sports News.
“Why Chelsea sold him, I haven’t got a clue.”
Manchester United signed Matic in a deal from Chelsea to add more muscle to their midfield.
Chelsea signed six players in the summer transfer window to improve their squad depth.
